AB is good if only because it allows for a large margin of error, and also gives you a taste of larger battles.

To be quite honest, if I'm not GvGing, I sometimes AB to practice healing people not shown on my party tree, sort of like healing NPC's in GvG (SORT OF)

RA is the best to start out, you learn mechanics and unlock stuff for HA and GvG...

Well, prediction is the key to being good at Ranger -- without that skill you're stuck with only reflex interrupts. I play at ~300 ping constantly and find 1s casts easy at full range but 3/4s cast can be quite difficult sometimes as it requires more skill in positioning.

Mind you, skill in positioning will help you along the way. And try to err....*exploit* people, look at how they play. (Directed at the OP) I think Yue made a guide on being effective on a Ranger on Teamquitter forums somewhere, so it would be best to check there.

And don't forget to look at casting paterns, staring at the Target Skill Use bit will, in my opinion make yourself dependant on it when in all reality you should be keeping an eye on the field.

Start in RA as many people have said...

Wrong

If you can't interrupt 1 sec cast times on reflex without <100fps you need to consider either working on that or trying a different profession. Sorry people need to stop complaining about ping.

RA/AB - Get a feel for your strong professions

HA/TA - Enhance your strong profs

GvG - Be good

You're kidding? If you don't have friends in TA, you can go nowhere (friends, not glad that's why there are a whole bunch of g5+ farmers stuck in RA forever ). In fact, TA is the worst place to start pvp since it discourages new ppl so fast.

If you want to practive with pug, go HA.
